Do you enjoy film photography? If so, you'll LOVE to learn how to create Cyanotypes and Gum Bichromate prints. Long before film, long before dry plate photographs and tintypes, both these processes were how photographs were created. Using these processes, developed in the 1840's and 1850's, these prints are made using the same chemical processes, coupled with modern day film substrates, papers, cameras and lenses.

This is the only class of its kind in Tennessee. No where other than Make Nashville offers the opportunity to learn these unique ways of printmaking.

• Who can come: This is a beginner-level workshop, but all levels of experience are welcome.
• What you should bring to the first class: Digital copies of digital images and/or scans the students would like to print. These can be shared with me prior to the first class as I will ascertain these images are good candidates for these printing techniques.
• About safety: Chemicals used in these processes need to be handled with caution. The Cyanotype process is safe enough, presensitized papers are sold in children's museums-typically known as "Sunprints". Gum Bichromate handling requires protective gloves when handled. We will discuss basic chemistry safety and proper disposal of darkroom chemicals. The darkroom is a safe space but participants should know we will be working with chemicals and that some with sensory sensitivities could be affected by chemical smells, darkness, and enclosed spaces.
