Celebrate Black Canadian literary voices of all genres at a night of amazing performances and Q+A!

Celebrate Black Canadian literary voices of all genres at a night of amazing performances and Q+A with featured artists Matthew R. Morris and Bee Quammie. Sign-ups for open mic poetry sessions start at 6:30 p.m.

Matthew R. Morris is an educator, anti-racism advocate, and writer based out of Toronto. He is the author of the instant national best seller, “Black Boys Like Me: Confrontations with Race, Identity, and Belonging.” He earned a BA (Hons) and an MA in Social Justice Education from the University of Toronto. In addition to teaching, his work and public speaking on the deconstruction of Black masculinity, hip-hop culture, and schooling has taken him across North America to consult on and learn about the challenges facing students and educators in the current education system. He has written articles for TVO, Huffington Post, ETFO Voice, and Education Canada and has been featured in the Toronto Star and Sun, on CBC Radio, and CityNews.

Bee Quammie is a writer, radio host, television personality, and public speaker. She was the co-host of the Kultur’D podcast on Global News Radio and is a regular guest on The Social. Her writing has been featured in publications including The Globe and Mail, Maclean’s, Chatelaine, Ebony, Flare, and Hazlitt among others, and covers topics spanning race and culture to parenthood to health and wellness. She lives in Toronto.
