Nature Journaling for Children

Join together in a child-focused nature journaling event! Children will have the choice between a meadow or a forest to set up an observation area. The five senses will guide us in observation of the natural surroundings, and children can then select from a variety of artistic implements for recording in their journal. This preserve provides lots of diversity in plant, animal, and insect species for children to observe and record.

What to Expect: This event will take place entirely outdoors with short walks taken to forest and meadow areas for observation. This event is open to all ages (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

What to Bring: Bring water, a snack, and a blanket or portable chair to create an observation/creation station. Recommended supplies for recording include a sketchbook, color pencils, watercolors, etc. If you do not have art supplies, some will be available for use. Dress for the weather. Insect repellant and sunscreen may be appropriate; if using please apply prior to arrival or in the parking area.

Event Leader: Mary Patterson is an Interpretive Ranger with the Lancaster Conservancy. She is passionate about wildflowers, butterflies, and all the wonderful things that can be discovered outside. Keenly in tune to the herbaceous plants that keep meadows and forest floors interesting, Mary also leads the local Susquehanna Nature Journal Club and is an active PA Master Naturalist.

Refund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event.

Animal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home.

Cancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded.
