The Mission Child and Youth Committee acknowledges that we work and learn on the Traditional, Ancestral, Unsurrendered, and Shared territories of Stó:lō people, of Leq'á:mel, Semá:th, Máthxwi, Sq'éwlets and Qwó:ltl'el First Nations, stewards of this land since time immemorial.
Halq'eméylem is the language of this land and of Stó:lō ancestors. The place from where Halq’eméylem (Upriver dialect) originates is Leq’á:mel. The language comes from the land, and it has been this way since time immemorial.
We, as members of the Mission Public School District community, embrace our commitments to strengthening partnerships and relationships with all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.
As a committee, we would like to acknowledge the financial and in kind support of the following organizations and businesses:
This day of learning has been made possible by both their financial support and in kind work on the event itself.
Info: Register with one of our wonderful volunteers and enjoy some coffee and tea. Please take a moment to visit our donor corner acknowledging those organizations who have supported this event.
Info: This session features Sts’ailes Cultural Ambassador Keegan (Kaxte' eylexw), who will welcome guests by sharing the history of the Sts’ailes people and the cultural significance of Harrison Hot Springs, located within Sts’ailes' traditional territory. His words are woven together with traditional drumming and songs, offering a meaningful connection to the land and culture of Sts’ailes.
Info: Connie Evans is a Certified Forest Therapy Guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Programs dedicated to partnering with the forest and nature to support the wellness of people and nature alike. This session invites participants to experience the healing potential of nature through the practice of forest therapy. The session begins with an introduction to the foundations of forest therapy, including its origins, principles, and evidence-based benefits for mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Participants will learn how slowing down, engaging the senses, and deepening awareness of the natural world can foster resilience, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of belonging.
Following the presentation, the group will move outdoors for a 15-minute guided forest sit spot. This practice offers an opportunity to step into stillness, reconnect with the land, and experience firsthand the restorative effects of mindful presence in nature.
Info: Attendees will spend time in one of the four working groups of the Mission Child and Youth Committee. Together they will honour accomplishments of the past, consider the current climate, dream big for the future, and suggest pathways forward.
Info: Working groups from the previous session will join together to cross share the information gathered. In an interactive format, attendees will be able to show the various connections they make from organization to organization.
