The Nervous system through the lenses of Body-Mind Centering® and a Polyvagal-informed approach.
The Nervous System has become a buzz word in recent time thanks to incredible new research that has unveiled new understandings of its functioning and the impact on everyday life. The nervous system is the recording system of the body. It records our experiences and organizes them into patterns influencing our future choices and capacity to make sense of the world.
Cinzia and Jaye will lead participants through an immersive journey towards an embodied understanding of the nervous system. Exploring embodied strategies for self-regulation to foster resilience and build capacity to modulate through different states. This workshop weaves together anatomy, movement explorations, creative play, guided touch and imagination whilst promoting safety and self care.
This workshop is designed for therapists, educators, performing artists, yoga teachers and other body-based practitioners, (as well as students of these fields).
Program:
Morning (10am to 1pm):
After a group introduction we will focus on the anatomy of the Nervous System and its embryological development – we will do that through looking at images and models and also through movement invitations and sensorial explorations.
Afternoon: (2 pm - 6 pm)
We will focus on the Autonomic Nervous System, (hence the Sympathetic and the Parasympathetic) and in particular to the Vagus nerve offering practical strategies to promote resilience and capacity for modulation.

Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) is an integrated approach to transformative experience through movement re-education and hands-on repatterning. Developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, it is an experiential study based on the embodiment and application of anatomical, physiological, psychophysical, and developmental principles, and utilizes movement, touch, voice, and consciousness. This study leads to an understanding of how the mind is expressed through the body and the body through the mind.

Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, is a framework that explains how the autonomic nervous system influences our social behavior, emotional regulation, and physical state, particularly in response to perceived safety or danger. It emphasizes the role of the vagus nerve and its different branches in shaping our responses to the environment.
