SAX DAY 2025!
Hear ye, hear ye Texas High School band directors and saxophone private lesson teachers! Now that all of you have survive at least one week of the heat of summer band…it is time to announce Sax Day 2025 is right around the corner!
Location: Dallas College-Brookhaven Campus (Rooms D 203 and D208 in D-building)
Date and Time: Saturday, Aug. 30th 9 am-4 pm
Open and Free to all Texas High School Saxophone Students, Private Lesson teachers, band directors and the public!
Because this will be the 20th anniversary of our event – we will have not one but FOUR Master Clinicians from different universities in the United States to celebrate this milestone!
The guest clinicians are:
Dr. Chris Creviston – Professor of Saxophone at Arizona State University
Dr. Stephen Page – Professor of Saxophone at University of Texas at Austin
Dr. Myles Boothroyd – Assistant Professor of Saxophone at the University of Oklahoma
Dr. Kendra Wheeler - Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Louisianna State University
Also returning as our TMEA/ATSSB All-State Jazz Clinicians are:
Mr. Matt Sawyer from Braswell HS and UNT One O' Clock Lab Band Alum will be covering the TMEA and ATSSB All-State jazz etudes for saxophone.
Rob Rose – Private lesson teacher in the DFW area and plays in several jazz/commercial gigs in the area.
Please IM me (Roy Allen) with any saxophone students you wish to perform in the masterclasses—etudes, solo and chamber repertoire by Aug 17th. Please indicate which of these areas you wish your student(s) to perform (only one area will be guaranteed).
The itinerary of the day is as follows:
9-10:30 am - Jazz etudes and improvisation
10:30-noon - classical etudes masterclass only
Lunch at noon-1 pm: Free Pizza (both non-vegetarian and vegetarian) will be provided. Vending machines are available for drinks.
1 pm-2 pm -guest performances by faculty, private lesson teachers and students.
2-3:30 pm- solo/chamber repertoire and etudes (part 2) masterclasses.
3:30-4 pm (or a little longer)—Q and A with clinicians and expert teachers.
Sax Day has existed for 20 years and is the first all-state event of its kind in the state of Texas and continues to prepare high school sax students for all-region/area/all-state auditions and beyond! We are looking forward to working with your students!
