Job Description:
Join our team at Nigerian British University as a System & Network Administrator and play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and security of our IT infrastructure. As part of the Information and Computer Technology (ICT) department, you will work with cutting-edge systems while supporting the university's academic, administrative, and research needs.
In addition to technical responsibilities, this role oversees the strategic planning, development, and management of the university’s ICT systems. You will lead all ICT units—including network administration, data management, and application development—ensuring the alignment of technology initiatives with institutional goals. You will also manage ICT budgets, drive digital innovation, and deliver high-quality services across the university.
Key Responsibilities:
• Strategic Leadership: Guide the planning and development of ICT initiatives that align with the university’s long-term vision.
• System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain servers, desktops, and laptops.
• Network Administration: Design and maintain LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
• Data & Application Oversight: Manage data systems and application development efforts across departments.
• Security Management: Implement robust security measures (firewalls, IDS/IPS, access control).
• Performance Monitoring: Continuously assess and optimize system/network performance.
• Troubleshooting: Resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
• User Support: Provide training and technical support to staff and students.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of configurations, procedures, and policies.
• Compliance: Ensure systems meet institutional policies and regulatory standards.
• Team & Budget Management: Lead the ICT team and oversee technology budgets.
Qualifications:
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
2. Experience: 3–5 years in system/network administration, ideally in an academic environment
3. Certifications: CompTIA Server+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent
4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Windows, Linux, macOS; knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routers, switches
5. Leadership: Proven ability to lead ICT projects and teams
6. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities
