Once upon a time, Aberdeenshire was hot, sitting on the continent of Laurentia, near the Equator. Over the Iapetus Ocean, shivering on Avalonia, lay southern Scotland and England, near the South Pole. After a while, the two continents crashed and drifted northwards from the Equator. Towering mountains, erupting volcanoes, earthquakes and... the first land animals were the result!
Imagine you can see where all this happened. You can!
We are planning to visit the crash site—Stonehaven! We’ll look at the rocks and learn how they tell the story.
And maybe get an ice cream while we’re there!
This will be an outdoor session, so please ensure all children have warm/waterproof clothing suitable for the weather and sturdy footwear.
This event is open to children aged 8-12 years old who want to learn more about nature!
