Japanese artist Issei Watanabe (b.1981, Tokyo, Japan)
Studied at the Washington State University in Ceramic, where he obtained his BFA in 2006 and studied at the Pratt Institute for his MFA in New Form. He currently lives and works in Aalborg, Denmark.
He is willing and eager to work with social issues and do whatever is required of him to complete the work of art and concepts. He hopes to create art that influences people’s minds and provides exciting experiences that lead people to feel ecstasy.
Because of the nature of creation feel that artists have, they can’t stop creating their artworks. However, if he could create a thousand artworks in his entire carrier, he would be satisfied that he could make only one piece that he feels great about. When the best work that he feels good about and the people satisfactions are matched, that would create the powerful artwork that imprints in the history and culture. That is what he wants people to experience through his artwork.
His perspective on art-making is not to limit the ideas and their possibilities, or the flexibilities of his imagination. For this reason, he has not had a single primary medium like most artists do. The more he become involved in the creation of contemporary art, the more he pays careful attention to media and its meaning.
Creating art with the assistance of the manufacturers and readymade is one of the ideas he considers as it allows him to take his ideas and work further. This is how he would like to
pursue his art and ideas.
