Hey fellow riders!
Time to saddle up for a cross-border ride through the scenic borderlands of Germany and the Netherlands — with castles, countryside, and Dutch snacks waiting along the way.
We’ll be starting in Aachen, passing through Vaals, Valkenburg, and Maastricht, before heading north via Kerkrade and finishing the ride in Herzogenrath. Along the route, we’ll enjoy a mix of forest trails, bike paths, and peaceful rural roads — plus three castles!
Some of our highlights:
● 🏰 Burg Rode – A moated castle and the final landmark of our tour
● 🏰 Kasteel Genhoes – A historic estate nestled in the hills near Valkenburg
● 🏰 Burg Erenstein – A 14th-century castle surrounded by forest and parkland
● ⛪️ Basilica of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwebasiliek) – A Romanesque gem and one of Maastricht’s oldest churches
● 🏙 Maastricht Old Town – Cobbled streets, medieval architecture, and riverside charm
● 🚲 Beautiful cycling paths through the Dutch Limburg countryside
● 🌿 Panoramic views, quiet villages, and borderland landscapes
We will take a break in Maastricht at the Eetcafé Minckelers to recharge with:
● 🍺 Dutch/Belgian beer
● 🍟 Fries
● 🥩 Bitterballen, frikandel, and other deep-fried delicacies
