One of the greatest living djembe legends, the ambassador of Guinean culture, M’Bemba Bangoura, will be leading drum and dance workshops in Belgrade, Serbia, on November 1st and 2nd, 2025.
Whether you play the djembe, the dundun, the drums, or some other form of percussion, or you simply love the energy and movements of West African dance, whether beginner or advanced, you are welcome to join this inclusive master workshop, and the community of drummers from across the Balkan region devoted to West African beats and dance.
We have a rare opportunity in our region to learn about West African culture, rhythms, dance, the way they connect and serve each other, their traditional and contemporary application in African and global societies, to be inspired and to celebrate the power of music that connects us, under direct guidance of a celebrated master like M’Bemba Bangoura.

M’Bemba Bangoura
Master M’Bemba Bangura, originally from Guinea, West Africa, began playing the djembe at the age of seven. By the age of twenty-one, he was recognized as a drum master and was invited to play for the Djoliba Ballet, Guinea’s national company. Since moving to the United States in 1992, M’Bemba has been an integral part of the drumming and dance scene throughout the country. He has taught hundreds of students, many of whom are now teachers themselves. In addition, he has personally created choreographies and developed repertoire for dozens of dance companies around the world. For three decades, he has traveled and taught throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. He has recorded 3 solo albums and a two-volume DVD titled Wamato: Everybody Look! M’bemba has been a guest artist on numerous other projects. Dedicated to teaching drums, dance, and his culture, M’Bemba is one of the foremost global ambassadors for Guinean drumming and dance.

The workshops are organized by the cultural and artistic society ĐEMBIJA (formed with goal of promoting West African folklore, rhythm, music, and dance), SambaLolo Production (production house focusing on West African traditions), and The Museum Of African Art in Belgrade (MAU).

Bez obzira da li svirate djembe, dundun, klasične bubnjeve ili neki drugi oblik udaraljki, ili jednostavno volite energiju i pokrete zapadnoafričkog plesa, bilo da ste početnik ili napredni, dobrodošli ste da se pridružite ovoj inkluzivnoj majstorskoj radionici i zajednici bubnjara iz celog balkanskog regiona posvećenih zapadnoafričkim ritmovima i plesu.

M’Bemba Bangoura
Majstor M’Bemba Bangura rodom iz Gvineje, Zapadna Afrika,počeo je da svira đembe sa sedam godina. Do dvadeset prve godine bio je priznat kao majstor bubnja i pozvan je da svira za Balet Đoliba, nacionalnu kompaniju Gvineje. Od preseljenja u SAD 1992. godine, M’Bemba je sastavni deo celokupne bubnjarske i plesne scene širom zemlje. Podučavao je stotine učenika, od kojih su mnogi sada i sami učitelji. Pored toga, lično je kreirao koreografije i razvio repertoare za desetine plesnih kompanija širom sveta. Već tri decenije putuje i podučava širom Sjedinjenih Država, Meksika, Evrope, Azije i Kariba. Snimio je 3 solo albuma i dvotomni DVD pod nazivom Wamato: Everybody Look! M’bemba je bio gostujući umetnik na mnogobrojinim drugim projekatima. Posvećen podučavanju bubnjeva, plesa i svoje kulture, M'Bemba je jedan od najistaknutijih svetskih ambasadora gvinejskih bubnjeva i plesa.
