Urban Ecotones: The Development Of Zurich's City Limits

Urban Ecotones is a performance that explores the development of the boundaries of the city of Zurich from the end of the last ice age to the present day. From the perspective of a walker, the city's history shifts from the “grand narrative” to the stories that have been displaced by the city's growth.

In the Botanical Garden, the focus is on two plant species that existed in Zurich before human settlement and serve as signposts. The performance takes place in several languages and uses objects and paper prints to project shadows and images onto the Plexiglas structure of the greenhouses. These projections become a meeting point between inside and outside, past and present - transforming the structure itself into an urban ecotone.
