Surviving Auschwitz!
Please join us for this moving and compelling event!
Thursday, October 9, Yukon Czech Hall. Open and free to the public.
__________
Marie Žilová, presents the account of her father’s survival from Auschwitz.
Civic leader, teacher, actor, and Sokol member, Jaroslov Sýkora, was arrested along with 32 other local Czech civic leaders in 1941 by the Gestapo. The Nazis did not want these men coming back, so they were sent to Auschwitz. Of the 32 men, only 8 survived. Jaroslov returned home to his family.
When she was a young girl, Jaroslov took Marie to Auschwitz and recounted the facts of what happened there. After he finished, Jaroslov charged his young daughter with the task of sharing what she learned with others so that such an atrocity would never happen again.
Marie has been doing that very thing since 1970! Over the years, she has given about 50 lectures to various Czech audiences - from elementary and high school students to adults in public town halls.
Mrs. Žilová is our guest from the Czech Republic for the Oklahoma Czech Festival. This is her first visit to America. We felt compelled to ask her to share her story while she is here.
You are invited to come hear Marie’s PowerPoint lecture at Yukon Czech Hall on Thursday, October 9, at 7:00 p.m.
