Samy Nevarez is a Mexican performing artist who completed her professional training in contemporary dance at the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey. She has received grants and support from institutions such as CONARTE, which allowed her to further her professional development at P.A.R.T.S (Brussels). She also took part in the training residency “METAMORPHOSIS” with Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich in Valencia, Spain. In October 2017, she joined the contemporary percussive music and dance ensemble DON CAÑALERO, where she worked as a dancer and assistant artistic director until
2019. During CAMP_iN 2018, she was invited to take part in the residency and restaging of WRECK, a piece by Italian choreographer Pietro Marullo. Samy was a member of the fourth cast of CEPRODAC (Contemporary Dance Production Center of
Mexico), where she performed full works such as HÉROES by Lydia Romero (Mexico), SEDUCCIÓN by Hamid El Kabouss (France-Morocco), and OMPHALOS by Damien Jalet
(France-Belgium), touring nationally and internationally in Germany and France. In 2020, she became part of the organizational and teaching team of CAMP_iN and
received the EFCA (Fiscal Stimulus for Artistic Creation and Production) from CONARTE, through which she created the stage piece VERY BEAUTY, premiered at MARCO Museum in Monterrey and later selected by ENARTES 2021. That same year,
Samy was awarded the Youth Merit Medal in Artistic Distinction by the Youth Institute of San Pedro Garza García.
She has been teaching her signature workshop CUERPO ABIERTO for over four years at various dance schools and studios across Mexico, including the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey, the Professional School of Contemporary Dance of
Mazatlán, and the Jasmin Vardimon Company in the UK.
Since 2018, she has co-directed the project THE ROMMIES with Alejandra Corona, presenting full-length works in cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey, Tampico, and Mérida, and in festivals like 44 Grados Danza, Yucatán Escénica, and Foro 8. In 2019,
aiming to create space for creative processes, they produced an artist residency in Mexico City with Venezuelan choreographer Gabriel Torres Morandi. In 2020, they premiered the dance film “Despacio que voy de prisa”, created during a residency in
Switzerland in collaboration with Elura Films, a production company based in Lucerne. In January 2022, Samy collaborated with Los INNATO, directed by Marko Fonseca in Costa Rica. She has been a dancer and co-creator with Danza Visual since 2022. She also leads her own project, LA INQUIETA, escena y danza contemporánea. Works created under LA INQUIETA—such as VERY BEAUTY, NO ESTÉS TRISTE, IF THE RUSH TAKES ME, HASTA QUE REVIENTE EL CIELO, SIMPLICIDAD (with Jonathan Rodríguez), and VEINTE 21 (with Daniel Luis)—have been presented in Costa Rica and across several states in Mexico, including Colima, Xalapa, Querétaro, Monterrey, and Mexico City, as well as in virtual festivals and platforms. She was awarded the Scenic Creators Grant 2022–2023. In 2023, she completed the
Diploma in Performing Arts Management from the University of Guadalajara (UDG). Most recently, she successfully completed a six-month professional residency with JV2 by Jasmin Vardimon Company in Ashford, UK (September 2023). In 2024, she
