About the event

When the Drum Chooses Her Keeper
At Mountain River Drums, a sacred drum is never “made.” It is received—when a woman has opened her spirit to the living presence within hide and hoop.
This 2 full-days women’s ceremony invites you into deep relationship with the drum. Guided by Jennifer Wust’s grounded, spirit-led approach, you’ll begin with purification, directional honouring, and silent attunement—preparing yourself to be seen by the drum whose spirit is waiting for you.
This is not a standard workshop—it is a rare and intimate ceremony, intentionally held for just three women at a time. By limiting the circle to this sacred number, Jennifer Wust of Mountain River Drums ensures each participant receives deep, undivided attention, and the space remains energetically clear, focused, and profoundly held. Every element—from the preparation of your drum materials to the pacing of the day—is attuned to the unique spirit of those present. This level of intimacy allows for true shamanic presence: silence is honoured, rhythms unfold organically, and the drum chooses its keeper without distraction. If you are called to this gathering, know that your place is not just reserved—it is ritually prepared for you alone.
As you weave with prayerful hands, every motion becomes an offering. By twilight, your drum will be alive—not by your making, but by mutual recognition. The first day closes with a Drum Circle of First Breath, where new keepers and their skin and hoops meet the night together in sacred sound.
This is for women who sense the call—not to just craft a drum, but to enter into covenant with one.
What to Expect:
🐻 Ritual opening with smudging and acknowledgment of ancestors and directions
🐝 Introduction to the spirit of the materials— kangaroo hide and wood —sourced with reverence
🦋 Hands-on drum birthing as a devotional, shamanic act (all sacred materials provided)
🦎 Time for silent integration, personal reflection, and grounding
🌕 Twilight Drum Circle of First Breath—a non-performative, spirit-led gathering
🦉 Guidance on beginning your ongoing relationship with your drum after the ceremony
Open to women of all experience levels who come with respect, readiness, and an open heart.
Is the drum calling you?
If your spirit stirs at the thought of meeting your shamanic ally—not through craft alone, but through sacred readiness—this ceremony is for you.
Spaces are held with intention and limited to honour the depth of the work.

Meals & Accommodation:
This is a full 2 day-long immersive ceremony held in Grenfell, NSW. Participants are asked to bring their own nourishing lunch, water, and any personal snacks to sustain them through the day. Tea and Coffee and refreshments for Morning and Afternoon Breaks on Saturday and all meals will be provided for Sunday as it is a very busy day and Jennifer wants you to be fully fuelled and present. Please note: this event does not include accommodation. If travelling from afar, we encourage you to arrange lodging in advance—Grenfell offers a range of local stays, from RV Friendly camp area, caravan park, Grenfell Motel, just minutes from the workshop space.
Location & Getting Here:
The ceremony will be held in Grenfell, NSW—a quiet country town nestled in the heart of the Central West, on Wiradjuri Country. Grenfell is approximately:

45 km north of Young (about 35 minutes by car)
80 km west of Cowra (roughly 1 hour drive)
95 km south of Forbes (around 1 hour 10 minutes by car)
209 km north of Canberra (approx. 2 hours 30 minutes by car)
363 km west of Sydney Airport (about 4 hours 30 minutes by car)

Grenfell is accessible by private vehicle via sealed roads, and limited V/Line coach services connect nearby towns (with transfers often required). There is no public transport within Grenfell itself, so we strongly recommend arranging your own transport or carpooling with other participants. If you’re travelling from afar and need support coordinating rideshares or local directions, please mention this in your email to bXJkd2hvcCB8IGdtYWlsICEgY29t
Investment & Commitment:
The full investment for this two-day women’s shamanic drum birthing ceremony is $995 AUD. As spaces are held with deep intention and materials are prepared in advance, full payment is required to secure your place.
Please note: Cancellations made within 7 days of the event start date are non-refundable, as your space cannot be filled at such short notice and your drum materials have already been ritually prepared on your behalf. If you need to withdraw more than 7 days prior, please contact us to discuss options.
By registering, you acknowledge that this is a sacred commitment—not only to the ceremony, but to the drum spirit awaiting you.
