As plants recline into winter dormancy, their energy moves below the surface.
So too do the activities of cold-season gatherers, tracing the flow of energy into the roots, stems, and "interior" parts of plants. Like the stillness of the landscape on the threshold of winter, wild foods and medicines are less conspicuous; and yet abundance persists, well-suited for our wintertime needs. It's a time to slow down--to mirror the quiet of the season--and to tend wild spaces in gratitude for their gifts.
Whether you are interested in wild foods, local plants and ecology, or alternative uses for plants through wildcrafting and medicine, you're invited to join our Late Fall Forging Walk, taking place Sunday, December 7th from 1pm to 3pm.
Along the way, we will spend time paying tribute to our long shared history with plants, looking beyond the question of "what can I eat?" on the landscape. We will also emphasize ethical foraging and ways of giving back to the land from which we’re taking–reinforcing how thinking like an ecosystem should guide the practice of gathering wild foods.
Beginners and experienced foragers are welcome.
