About this event
Come and join us on a mass cycle ride across York, as we demonstrate the importance of lit-up cycling; both on the roads and on our bikes themselves.
Lighting is a two-way street. We always encourage the importance (and legal requirement) of proper lighting on a bike. But street lighting both on- and off-road is absolutely essential, not only to keep us visible to drivers and pedestrians, but to maintain a sense of security, and encourage people to keep cycling in the darker months.
With this in mind, we'll be adorning our bikes (and ourselves) with LED strips, fairylights, UV facepaint, glowsticks, and anything else we can get our hands on. We encourage you to illuminate yourselves in as many ways as you possibly can!
Meanwhile, we're asking City of York Council to add functional, effective lighting to the city's key cycle routes.
We will be assembling at the Barbican from 6:15pm and setting off at 6:30pm. We will be travelling across some of the more notoriously badly-lit areas of York, safely in convoy. We'll finish at the Carlton Tavern in Acomb, which has cycle parking just outside!
Please sign up here and encourage your friends and family to do so too.
