This 60-hour course is being offered for the first time in York by an experienced senior tutor. It will build on practices from Foundation 1 Course giving a structured approach to deepening yoga practice, widening practical experience and encouraging personal development. There is emphasis on more subtle aspects of yoga practice and philosophy. Physical limitations do NOT preclude full participation in the course, and it doesn’t matter what style of yoga you already practice.
10 Monthly Saturday Meetings, 9.30am - 4.30pm
Online Intro session: Sunday 5th October 4pm
More challenging asanas will be explored using a staged approach with a stronger emphasis on pranayama, mudras and bandhas along with a variety of meditation techniques. There will be discussions about Pranic anatomy, Patanjali Yoga Sutras (Chapters 1 & 2) an overview and comparison with the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, together with encouragement to reflect and share in small groups. There are no formal assessments, however, students will be expected to submit a piece of work discussing concepts of Patanjali (Chapters 1 and 2), the content of which will be covered during the course.
You will be encouraged to set up your own practice space, given the tools to develop your own regular home practice and to explore the transformative effects of yoga. You will gain knowledge, confidence and motivation whilst being supported and guided all the way.
Through the course you will meet like-minded individuals who also want to continue their yoga journey. The course gives the opportunity to understand the wider picture of yoga, to dig deeper and to find out why we practice in the way that we do. The ancient texts of Patanjali and Hatha Yoga Pradipika will be studied in a present-day context with chances to reflect on how these can guide our approach in life.
Each meeting will include mat-based practices of asanas, pranayama, mudras, bandhas, meditation and relaxation. There will be discussions around applying yoga wisdom to modern day life. The meetings can be inspiring, uplifting and motivating for further research.
Journaling about your own experiences will help you to chart the challenges and changes that you notice along the way.
