More About Julianne:
Julianne Holland, affectionately known as Miss Jules, is an acclaimed Australian artist, designer, and founder of the bespoke hat label Beltera. With a background in Fine Arts and a deep connection to nature, Jules has cultivated a unique artistic practice that intertwines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
At the heart of Beltera lies Jules's signature "painting with thread" technique, where each hat becomes a canvas for intricate, hand-embroidered artwork. Employing traditional millinery methods, she hand-shapes premium rabbit fur felt over wooden blocks, sourcing materials like kangaroo leather, vintage silks, and glass beads to adorn her creations. Each design is sketched freehand and meticulously embroidered without the use of machines, ensuring every piece is a one-of-a-kind wearable artwork.
Jules's artistic journey is deeply influenced by her experiences as a park ranger in some of Australia's most remote landscapes, as well as her time working on conservation projects abroad. These adventures have instilled in her a profound appreciation for the natural world, which is evident in the organic motifs and earthy tones that characterize her work
Beyond her work with Beltera, Jules is the founder of Aphrodite Art School, where she facilitates creative workshops and retreats aimed at fostering artistic expression and personal growth. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of creativity as a tool for self-discovery and empowerment, encouraging participants to explore their artistic potential without fear or judgment.
Through her dedication to craftsmanship, her reverence for nature, and her commitment to nurturing creativity in others, Julianne Holland continues to leave an indelible mark on Australia's artistic landscape.
