Did you know that 1 in 100 people are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) and did you know that one person dies in Canada every 5 minutes from heart disease, stroke or vascular cognitive impairment? More than 3.5 million people across Canada of all ages, ethnicities and genders are living with these conditions, but we are on the verge of significant breakthroughs and your donation can help make them happen.
My name is Scott Thomson and the reason I wanted to organize this fundraiser is because earlier this year I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, a type of CHD, and it’s affected my life in ways I never expected. If I hadn’t pushed for testing, I may never have known until it was too late.
That’s why I’m hosting the Heart & Stroke Walk for 1 in 100. This isn’t just about me — it’s about shining a light on CHD, raising awareness, and making sure others know the signs and importance of screening before it affects them or their loved ones.
Your donation will support life-saving research, advocacy, and education through the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Together, we can create change, save lives, and build a future where stories like mine aren’t the ones you hear too late.
