**NOTE**
We will go back to the format of "ONE HOUR CLASS + ONE HOUR JAM" from the 7th of November for a while again (with $25-20 sliding scale)
****
Each Friday our Contact Improvisation Community meets at the Yandina School of Arts to share the dance in a 2-hour facilitated session. Starting point is the exploration of one's body through movement in a grounding and nourishing way. Basic skills around moving together with touch and shared weight will be re-visited regularly in partner exercises.
We’ll always have phases to dance together as a group where individual needs and impulses are guiding us in a consensual environment.
-------------
We welcome new dancers keen to give Contact Improv a try. No experience is necessary.
Time: 6-8pm
Payment in cash or direct deposit on the night
Drop in is always possible : )
-------------
We have different formats for these Fridays.
- a two hour class that will also give time for dancing ($30-25)
- one hour class - one hour jam ($25-20)
- a Jam with a facilitated intro ($20-10)
- a series of 4 or 5 classes around the essential of CI
Which format is happening we'll be announced in the Sunshine Coast Contact Improv messenger group. Contact Joerg Hassmann, Miho Yazawa or Jonathan Tucker to join that group.
-------------
Most session will be facilitated by Joerg Hassmann, an internationally well known teacher. There is a team of experienced dancers, who facilitate the sessions, when Joerg is travelling to teach Workshops elsewhere.
CONTACT IMPROVISATION
has been developing internationally since 1972 and it started from the exploration, research and inquiries of Steve Paxton. It involves the exploration of one's body in relation to others and the space of presence they visit, by using the fundamentals of sharing weight, listening touch, and movement awareness. It has evolved into a broad global community around "jams" characterised by their welcoming attitude towards newcomers to dance, as well as seasoned practitioners, and its fundaments relate with dancing without being guided by music, instead, the dancers learn to listen to the sounds that the dance itself brings.
JOERG HASSMANN
Joerg is a dancer and passionate movement teacher, deeply interested in learning and the question 'what is it that makes us feel connected?' - on many different levels. He is one of the leading figures in Europe in the field of Contact Improvisation, and has been teaching for more than 25 years, offering training programmes and organising festivals. Many kinds of sports, release techniques, somatic work, Zenthai Shiatsu, instant composition and performance work have informed his dance and his teaching. He's been living on the Sunshine Coast for the last four years, facilitating the growths of the local CI community.
