We are looking to add talented and committed riders (women and men) to our team! You do not need to have drill experience but we are looking for confident yet coachable riders that crave the thrill of drill and aren't afraid to leave it all in the dirt!
No ponies or gaited horses are allowed. This is a western riding discipline. Solid W/T/L and steering is required. The expectation is for all riders/horses to be able to or working on: riding one handed/neck reining, be comfortable carrying a flag at all speeds, and be able to lope at appropriate pace through the entire drill. This isn't a requirement to be voted on to the team but should be something you are working on and is an expectation that your coaches and team members will support you in achieving by a reasonable time in the season. We are a competitive, precision drill team - riding with flags, riding one handed, and all horses loping throughout the drill, improves our scores and chances of winning. We want to see riders that are committed to improving themselves and their horses throughout the season, taking the time to work on things outside of practice, and asking for help/accepting help when you are struggling.
We attend 4 drill competitions over the summer in Oregon and Washington. You will be required to attend all 4. You will be provided with dates for these competitions along with other general info for prospective members at the start of tryouts.
Riders must be 16 years or older. If under 18, rider must wear a helmet anytime they are on their horse - at all practices, competitions, or events with the team. A legal parent/guardian must be present at tryouts. A parent or designated adult must be with youth at all competitions and events.
We are a passionate group of riders who have a common goal of excelling in the sport of precision drill. We also have a lot of fun, enjoy many meals together, and care for one another like a family. Being a team player is an important and desired characteristic for anyone joining our team.
Reach out to us with any questions. We'd love to hear from you if you think you can make it! We look forward to drilling with you!
