Where's the Buzz? Mapping Native Bees Using Participatory Science

We are excited to announce our first talk for the 2026 Winter Talks Series in collaboration with @yakimavalleycollege!

Talk description:
Did you know that Washington state has over 600 native bee species? Join us on Tuesday, January 16th, at 6pm to hear about what this diversity looks like in our shrub-steppe and why bee diversity matters. Also hear how citizen volunteers are supporting native bee populations via the Washington Bee Atlas. Within the first three years, this program has made exciting discoveries, including several new state and county records of rare bees.

Speaker Bio:
Caleb Lankford is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Washington Bee Atlas. Formerly a high school science teacher in Greenville, Mississippi, he now lives in Yakima, WA and works for the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

All talks are happening at YVC's Kaminski Conference Center (1704 W Nob Hill Blvd).
