MPK SWIN Race Day ft the Yumbin Community Justice Aboriginal Corporation Darby McCarthy Cup

This significant event will pay tribute to the late Darby McCarthy, a pioneering Indigenous athlete recognised as one of Australia’s greatest jockeys. His exceptional career included victories in Group 1 races such as the AJC Derby, Epsom Handicap, and multiple Stradbroke Handicaps. Beyond his remarkable achievements on the track, Darby was a committed advocate for Indigenous advancement in the racing industry. His legacy includes the establishment of an apprentice school for Indigenous youth, reflecting his passion for mentorship and opportunity creation.

In keeping with Darby’s enduring vision, the 2025 race day will also honour the theme of “Connecting Generations: Darby McCarthy and SWIN’s Legacy of Mentorship.” This theme highlights both Darby’s mentorship of emerging Indigenous talent and SWIN’s ongoing commitment to youth leadership and skills development through our Pathways Program.
