This autumn, the Polish Cinema for Beginners programme has been shaped by the Class of 2025 — a group of international Wrocław residents who, during curatorial workshops, selected films that tell their own story about contemporary Poland.
This time we will be watching "Pianoforte" by Jakub Piątek.
The movie takes us behind the scenes of the legendary International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, following a diverse cohort of young pianists from around the world as they navigate the intense rigours of preparation, performance, and the emotional stakes of a once-in-a-lifetime event. With Chopin’s music as both soundtrack and battleground, the film offers an intimate coming-of-age portrait of ambition, artistry and the price of excellence.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
This year, Polish Cinema for Beginners dives into the first 25 years of the 21st century, exploring how Poland and Polish cinema have reflected — or reimagined — contemporary life. Alongside recent productions, we’ll also revisit older gems where directors imagined what the future might look like. Don’t be surprised if some Polish sci-fi appears on screen!
The timing couldn’t be better: 25 years of the new millennium and 20 years of Poland in the European Union.
Polish Cinema for Beginners is organised entirely in English, making it the first film initiative in Poland designed especially for non-Polish speakers. The project invites both locals and internationals to discover Polish cinema together, on the big screen.
Organised by Wrocławska Fundacja Filmowa.
Co-financed by the City of Wrocław (www.wroclaw.pl) and the Polish Film Institute (PISF).

O PROJEKCIE
To wyjątkowy moment – świętujemy 25-lecie nowego milenium i 20-lecie obecności Polski w Unii Europejskiej.
