"You do not know the Welsh, you do not know how they fight. This is not war as you learned it. It is bloody, brutal work with no quarter given. Let me tell you about the Battle of Crogen. The old king, Henry, led an army into Wales, the Welsh won the day, and King Henry was forced to retreat back into England".
"Because that’s how war is waged in Wales on both sides. I’ve fought in Normandy, in Scotland, and even Ireland, and I tell you true when I say the Welsh do make the worst enemies. They do not play by your rules, they win when they are not supposed to, and they do not know when they are beaten...."

Cwmwd-Ial and our friends are back again at Chirk Castle portraying King Henry II’s Berwyn Campaign against the combined Welsh Forces of King Owain Gwynedd, Owain Cyfeiliog, The Lord Rhys and a host of other Welsh princes.
We will have our Welsh encampment as well as the English/Angevin camp for you to come visit, walk around and learn more about life at the time. Throughout the day we will also have combat displays, archery displays, and acting.
This is a firm favourite in the Cwmwd-Ial calendar and we hope you will come and enjoy it with us.
