This one-day practical course will offer a beginner friendly introduction to hedge laying using hand tools- from preparing a hedge for laying, to โpleachingโ stems, building stems into stakes and finally weaving binders.
You are welcome to bring your own tools and PPE โ silky saws, billhooks, axes, thick gloves and eye protection, if you have them. However, all of these things will also be provided on the day.
โ Please bring your own lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
โ Wear warm and waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear.
Meet at The Fold car park for a prompt start at 10am. We will finish at 4pm.

About the tutor
Laura is a traditional Hedgelayer and Coppicer based in Malvern. She has a degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology and has worked for a number of conservation organisations- The Heart of England Forest, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and Natural England. Lauraโs passion for hedgerows and woodlands led her set up โLauraโs Woodcraftโ, a business specialising in traditional hedgelaying and coppice wood products. She has delivered a number of hedgelaying training courses in the West Midlands and is passionate about sharing this heritage craft with people.
