Join us for an evening of experimental music featuring a long-form improvisation by Windscour, the duo of Joe Moffett (trumpet, voice, tapes) and Zach Rowden (tapes) along with a duo by Matt Wellins (homemade tape machines and speakers) and Michael Rosenstein (amplified surfaces and distressed field recordings) and a solo by Andrea Pensado (voice with digital and analog electronics.)
Windscour is the long-running duo of Joe Moffett and Zach Rowden. Moffett is a trumpet player whose work explores concepts of noise, duration, mirroring, and layering. He is an active improviser in a variety of settings and is cofounder of the trio Earth Tongues, with percussionist Carlo Costa and tubist Dan Peck, a trumpet-synth duo with Cecilia Lopez. Rowden deals with the acoustic and performative possibilities of the upright/electric bass & violin as well as modified/manipulated tapes. He works in a broad variety of settings including Tongue Depressor with Henry Birdsey, Red Yellow Blue Green Black with Austin Larkin, and collaborations with musicians including Max Hamel, Adam Buffington and others.
Matt Wellins works with music, video, installation, radio theater, and text and hand-built instruments sourced and repurposed from electronic salvage. A large portion of his work involves designing and performing on homemade analog electronic musical instruments, primarily as an attempt to find aperiodic sounds and chaotic states that counteract traditional methods of synthesis.
Michael Rosenstein collaborates in constantly evolving collectively improvised settings drawing on strategies of spontaneous interaction and collective structures. His work explores the interstitial interactions of acoustic instrumentation, electronics, multiphonics, abraded and degraded recordings, and feedback within performance spaces. He is a member of the group Variant State with Jesse Collins and collaborates with musicians including Marie Carroll, Martin Freeman, Yoona Kim, Mackenzie Kourie, Stella Silbert, and Vic Rawlings.
Andrea Pensado uses voice and hybrid electronics to make her music, working with Max as her main programming tool. The approach to both programming and performance is highly intuitive. Occasionally, the combination of the performance situation, often abrasive sounds, the irrational use of the voice and the inherent uncertainty of improvisations contributes to discoveries of unknown places in her mind. She performs solo and with Sheer Anxiety (a duo with Chris Strunk), Unredeemable (a duo with Tracy Lisk).
