Intermediate Woodturning: Bowl Turning

Make your own wooden bowl in this 3 hour woodturning class!
Students should have some familiarity with woodturning prior to taking this class. This can include taking the Basic Woodturning: Candlesticks class.

By the end of this workshop, you'll be able to:

• Identify the appropriate wood orientation to make a "face grain" bowl
• Learn how to mount a bowl blank to the lathe using a face plate
• Turn a tenon on the bowl blank and prepare it to be mounted in a scroll chuck
• Shape the outside of the bowl
• Shape the inside of the bowl
• Remove the tenon using a "Jamb" chuck and chisel
• Understand how you would go about finishing your bowl (Subject to time constraints).

• Be sure to wear shop appropriate clothing including closed toed shoes with no loose clothing.
• Students should have some familiarity with woodturning prior to taking this class. This can include taking the Basic Woodturning: Candlesticks class.

Hannah Hamad is a self-taught wood turner, who came into the craft while studying for standardized licensing exams in medical school. It quickly became a passion, where an in-apartment lathe with nightly sessions became a sanctuary from the world after long shifts in the hospital. Hannah started teaching at Technocopia June 2022, and has many fun classes planned including technique classes as well as basic and advanced level bowl turning, spindle turning, and hollow-form!
