A Cultural Mosaic: Live Music & Dance

Be transported back to the 1970’s and 1980’s when Middle Eastern restaurants and nightclubs were hopping seven nights a week in New England! Enjoy a cultural mosaic of Middle Eastern dances, music, food and a slide show of vintage photos as the BrickBox theater is transformed into a setting reminiscent of those lively venues where many New Englanders experienced Middle Eastern cultures for the first time.

The show will feature live Armenian, Turkish and Arabic music, played by musicians of Middle Eastern heritage, on both traditional and contemporary instruments. Two belly dancers will perform in the improvisational style that became very popular in this era, using what was known as a five-part routine to demonstrate their understanding of unique cultural elements found in this music.

There will also be plenty of time for everyone to join the fun with social dancing and Armenian and Greek line dances, which were also a vibrant part of the cultural mosaic happening in New England during this era.
