Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) is the emotional distress that results when an individual hears about the firsthand trauma experiences of another. For child-serving professionals who are exposed to details of traumatic events in the context of their work, STS is a common occupational hazard. If we know more about STS, ways to process work-related trauma exposures, and organizational level strategies to become more STS-informed, the better prepared we are to mitigate and address STS as individuals and in our agencies. This course is for all child-serving professionals who are exposed to details of traumatic events and/or individuals suffering from post-traumatic distress in the context of their work. Through the content in this course, you will learn the risks associated with working with individuals who are suffering with traumatic stress symptoms, strategies to reduce the impact of secondary traumatic stress (STS) and support wellness in staff, and finally, how addressing STS is an ethical mandate for organizations and individuals working in trauma-exposed environments.
For those attending in person, lunch will be provided.
CE Credits:
The Village Network has been approved by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board to offer continuing education credit hours to Counselors and Social Workers (Provider #RCS049601) and has approved this training for 3.75 hours of CE hours.
The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept a continuing education activity that has been approved by a board or an agency that regulates a health care profession or related discipline in Ohio including the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Information regarding continuing education requirements is available on the OBN website here.
Other licensing boards may also accept these hours; however, it is the attendee’s responsibility to establish this prior to attending.
In order to ethically provide CE hours, we use a platform that generates attendance time reports. We must have a total time in attendance for each participant in order to issue CE hours, and the CE hours issued are based on the total amount of time accumulated between the time an attendee joins and the time the attendee logs off. We are ethically bound to report the accumulated amount of time a participant attended; therefore we cannot issue CE hours to those:
· sharing a monitor, computer, and/or login
· failing to ensure their name label includes their first and last name
· joining by phone
· missing more than 10 minutes of a training that is 60 minutes in length
CE hours will be adjusted to the nearest quarter hour to reflect the amount of time present for sessions over 60 minutes in length.
