The Upper Valley Teaching Place Collaborative's Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of professional development providers from organizations that support place-based education in VT and NH. The members of the CoP gather throughout the year to support one another, learn together, collaborate, provide leadership for the UVTPC and serve as subject matter experts.
Join us on September 18th for a memorable day that blends energizing professional learning with fun, hands-on exploration at Billings Farm & Museum in Woodstock, Vermont!
Our UVTPC Community of Practice is designed to deepen connections across our network, surface shared challenges, and spark collaborations that strengthen place-based ecology education(PBEE) in the Upper Valley. During this special gathering, we’ll continue our discussions focused on reaching underserved areas of our community and share ideas and opportunities for working together. Next, we will dive into experiential, place-based learning by exploring the educational opportunities that come to life through the sights, smells, and stories of the farm. Specifically, we’ll be learning how a working farm can serve as a dynamic learning space connecting to literacy, science, and history standards. This adventure will include:
· A tour of our historic apple orchard, where you'll pick your own apples
· A chance to bake an apple crisp using freshly picked apples
· A visit to our animal barns, home to our beautiful Jersey cow herd
· Engaging discussions on integrating PBEE experiences into classroom learning
Lunch will be provided, thanks to the support of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Wellborn Ecology Fund. We encourage participants to dress for the weather and come prepared to spend the day outdoors, immersed in the rhythms of farm life.
