Bring a drawing of your garden space and plan it out together.
This casual, come-as-you-are garden planning session is designed as a precursor to the upcoming seed swap. The goal is simple: get a rough plan in place so when you arrive at the seed swap, you’ll have a better sense of what to grab while still leaving room for a little inspiration and spontaneity.
Whether you’re growing food already, just getting started, or reorganizing an existing space, this session will help you think through layouts, plant needs, and seasonal timing. Raised beds, containers, backyard plots, or even sunny windows all welcome.
We’ll begin with a short group discussion on garden layout basics and seasonal planning, then move into open planning time where you can sketch, rethink, and refine your garden with support from others in the room. Share ideas, ask questions, and learn from what your neighbors are growing.
No experience required and no perfect plan expected. Just bring curiosity and whatever notes or drawings you already have.
This event is offered in partnership with Carroll County Tourism and the Southwest Virginia Farmers Market.
What to bring:
• A hand-drawn sketch or rough map of your garden space
• Notes on sun, water access, existing plants, beds, or obstacles
• Pencil, pen, or colored markers if you like
• Questions, ideas, and willingness to brainstorm
What we’ll provide:
• Guidance on layout, spacing, and seasonal planning
• Community knowledge and shared problem-solving
• A relaxed space to think things through
Drop in for the full session or just part of it. We hope you’ll join us and head into the seed swap feeling a little more grounded and ready to plant.
