Join us for this DVM only event geared toward encouraging small group discussion about Veterinary Internal Medicine with Dr. Rachel Cooper and Dr. Adrienne Cheney!

Lecture Details:


Lecture #1:

Understanding and Treating Protein Losing Neuropathy in Dogs and Cats

Presented by: Rachel Cooper, DVM DACVIM

1. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Protein-losing nephropathy (PLN) in dogs and cats encompasses a spectrum of glomerular diseases leading to significant protein loss through urine, often resulting in progressive renal dysfunction and systemic complications. Recent have enhanced our understanding of the disease and management of PLN in these species. This lecture will go over recent advances in diagnostics, therapy and understanding of prognosis in both species at a level acceptable for general practice veterinarians and veterinary specialists.



2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

· Diagnosis of protein losing nephropathy in dogs and cats

· Diagnostic work up including when a renal biopsy should be performed

· Treatment including nutritional modifications and treatment with ACE inhibitors or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers

· Difference in managing cats compared to dogs with this condition

Clinical Approach to Ectopic Ureters in Dogs

Presented by: Adrienne Cheney, DVM, MS, DACVIM (SAIM), Resident ACVNU


1. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Ectopic ureters are a congenital urinary abnormality that can significantly affect quality of life of both the pet and owners. Early recognition and intervention can improve overall quality of life This lecture will outline diagnostics, treatment, complications, and clinical outcomes for dogs with ectopic ureters, and is appropriate for general practice veterinarians as well as veterinary specialists.

2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

· Recognition of predisposed animals, and clinical signs and symptoms indicative of ectopic ureters

· Diagnostic work up as well as interventions appropriate for ectopic ureters

· Common complications and long term outcomes following treatment
