Progressive Acoustics is delighted to host Italian guitar hero Beppe Gambetta for an intimate evening concert at The Centre Meeting Schoolhouse in Centerville DE on Sat, Sept 27. Beppe (AKA the “Italian Doc Watson”) is widely regarded as one of the most extraordinary guitarists in the world. He is also widely known and loved for his dedicated and obvious joy in teaching and working with guitar students at all levels. We are honored to be able to host him in this small and intimate setting. The concert will begin at 7:30PM.
Before the concert from 1:00-3:30PM, Beppe will presenting a workshop for flatpick guitar. The workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced players (and curious beginners), this hands-on session will explore picking technique, tone, rhythm, and melodic interpretation through traditional tunes and Beppe’s original compositions. Expect an engaging experience filled with musical insight, creative ideas, and the chance to learn from one of the world’s most distinctive acoustic guitar voices. Bring your guitar, your pick, and your curiosity!
Potential topics include:
Essential Flatpicking Mechanics: Master right-hand control, tone production, and efficient picking patterns including cross-picking and syncopated rhythms.
Melodic and Rhythmic Phrasing: Learn how to bring tunes to life through expressive timing, ornamentation, and dynamic variation.
Traditional and Original Repertoire: Work through selections from American fiddle tunes, Italian folk melodies, and Beppe’s original compositions.
Arranging & Interpretation: Discover how to build your own arrangements and interpret melodies with creativity and confidence.
There will be time between the workshop and concert for dinner at local restaurants in Centerville or Wilmington. Alternatively, participants can bring their dinner or order delivery and eat at the schoolhouse. And there will be ample time to hang out and jam before the concert.
Tickets are $75 for the workshop and $35 for the evening concert (workshop students are offered a $10 discount for the concert..)
