The public reading of the 2025-2026 Hill Fire script will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the Performing Arts Center, 208 Summit Street, Winona, MS. The name of the new play is “Wait for the Light”. It is set during the Depression and focuses on the lives of the residents of Winona during that time period.
The characters included in this play are Henry Hart, Melzana Ward Hart, Mary Laura Hart Whitehead, Mary Ward Whitehead, Edward Holmes, Alma Dantzler, Eliza Dantzler Mitchell, Alice Dodd, Willie Lee Dodd, Corinne Dodd, Dorris Dodd, Charlie Pace, Lillian Pace, Clyde Pace, Jennie Pace Emerson, Sam Emerson, Jim Emerson, Era Mason, Vila Mae Mason, Eulalia McVey, Clinton Frye, James Frye, Caroline Hart, Charlotte Billingsley, and Susie Staton.
All descendants of these people are encouraged to attend the reading of the script and offer additional information if available. Also, all actors participating in the show are encouraged to attend. If anyone is interested in participating who has not already indicated his/her intent, you are welcome to come by to see if any parts are still open. If speaking parts are not available, you can always get your foot in the door by working behind the scenes. It takes a village to put this show together each season, so there will always be spots open in that area.
