Join us at an inspiring, family-run pastured poultry operation in the process of expanding their locally-based direct sales business. We will tour the operation and learn how they are incorporating ruminants (sheep) for ecosystem & soil health and focus on business and marketing practices to increase on-farm revenues. Understanding Ag consultant John Hays will share his expertise in helping a wide array of agricultural operations improve their bottom line.
Topics to be addressed include:

· Addressing issues in “scaling up”
· The basics of marketing

· Email and social media direct marketing
· Stacked enterprise and income streams

INSTRUCTORS:
Dr. Ken Mix is the Program director of The Small Producer Initiative at Texas State University and currently teaches entomology, soil health, and crop production, with active research on small producer needs, soil, and water resources. He is a former vegetable producer and currently runs SKM Homestead, a small livestock and mixed produce 50-acre farm in Fentress, Texas.
Understanding Ag is a regenerative agricultural consulting company that educates and mentors farmers, ranchers, landowners, businesses, and communities in the principles and practices needed to restore, repair, rebuild, regenerate their farming and ranching ecosystems.
Southern Sunny Acres is a Veteran family-owned farm in East Texas, founded in 2021 by Ty and Tokie Morgan. Inspired by our grandparents’ Nebraska farm, Sunny Acres, we’re passionate about providing pasture-raised, chemical-free proteins and regeneratively grown food to our local community.
With over a decade of experience in sustainable agriculture, we believe in working with nature—no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers—to restore the land and nourish the body. Our farm is rooted in faith, family, and a mission to offer truly wholesome food that supports health and healing.
