Ice Cream For a Broken Tooth: readings with Robin Ince

Multi award winning comedian, author and broadcaster Robin Ince reads from his debut poetry collection as part of Winchester Poetry Festival 2025!

In 2024, Robin Ince started writing poetry obsessively. Best known for presenting The Infinite Monkey Cage and non fiction like Bibliomaniac and Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal, his first collection of poetry - Ice Cream for a Broken Tooth has been published this year (Flapjack Press).

At this event at P&G Wells Bookshop, he will be reading from this collection, plus poems he has written since the book went to press, and a few written particularly for the night!

Robin's poems are bold and tender and explore life, death and the odd bits in between.

"Choice words chosen wisely. Highly recommended for all humans who retain their humanity." Henry Normal

"Robin's poems embody the bravery that comes with vulnerability and a reverence for being here and loving every moment of it." Josie Long

"This is poetry to play and replay as each poem's colours change and layers of meaning glow." Dr Kathryn Mannix

"Each of these poems is a treat. A brief moment of connection, slipped between the pages of a hectic world." Reece Shearsmith

"Bright snapshots of where we are, our nature and humanity, our sensitivities, our rage and our happiness" Salena Godden

Robin Ince has presented BBC Radio 4’s The Infinite Monkey Cage with co-creator Professor Brian Cox since 2009, winning the Sony Radio Best Speech Programme Gold Award in 2011 and the Rose d’Or Best Radio Talk Show Award in 2015. As a stand-up comedian he has toured the world and is a winner of Time Out’s Outstanding Contribution to Comedy Award and a two-times winner of Chortle’s Innovation Award. As an author he has written several acclaimed books, including Bibliomaniac, which was a Waterstones Best Books of 2022 pick and earned him a Booksellers Association Author of the Year Award. Robin is a fellow of the British Science Association, has received an honorary doctorate from Royal Holloway, University of London, and is an Honorary Fellow of University College London. He also co-created The Cosmic Shambles Network.
