Roundtable: Meeting Community Needs in a Disaster
Wednesday, October 22, 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Wimberley Community Center (Johnson Hall)
Panel discussion
Disasters could hit our community in any number of ways. Fires, disease outbreaks, severe weather (extreme heat or cold, flooding, icy conditions, tornadoes, or hail) are just a few types of emergencies that have affected us in the past. Food, shelter and housing, communications, water, electricity, sanitation, medical needs (including access to medications), roads and transportation, even mental health could all be impacted depending on the type and duration of the disaster.
How can residents be more prepared themselves for each of the different types of disasters, both as individuals and as neighbors?
What preparations have our city and county emergency management, first responders, our local broadcaster, nonprofits and churches, and the medical community made for dealing with the types of disasters that could impact the community?
