Discover the Science of Sound – An Inclusive STEM Experience
Join us at Imagination Station Science & History Museum for a special event that brings together the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing communities. Through hands-on activities, you will be able to see, feel, and explore sound in new ways. This event is designed to make science more accessible and to promote inclusive education.

Event Activities
Assistive Technology and Communication Tools – Learn about hearing aids, cochlear implants, and visual alert systems. Interpreters will be available to answer questions.
Safe Listening Station – Explore safe sound levels, test headphone volumes, and learn about hearing protection.
Lip Reading Challenge – Try lip reading and discover how speech-to-text technology and captioning provide essential support.
Wave Explorations – Compare light and sound waves using slinkies, ropes, and springs.
Tuning Fork Experiments – See and feel vibrations with tuning forks, sounding boxes, and water.
Oobleck on a Speaker – Watch sound waves create movement in non-Newtonian fluid.
Sound Sculptures (STEAM Activity) – Build or draw shapes inspired by music and vibrations.
Genetic Trait Bracelet – Create a unique bracelet that represents different genetic traits.
Accessibility:
ASL interpreters available at all stations
Looping ASL instruction videos
Printed instructions with simple text and visuals
Sensory-friendly and visually clear signage
