Surface Design, Tuesdays 7-9PM, beginning 10/28/25

We will learn how to alter the surface of our forms in order to create different surface designs. We will cover carving, s'graffito, slip trailing, mishima, and glaze layering basics. We will add sculptural pieces to our vessels and use slip as a textural element, not merely a source of color. We will add underglaze transfers and learn how to ombre. So many exciting techniques! This will definitely take you to the next level!

Students must have taken at least the Intro to Pottery class (or equivalent), but intermediate throwing is not required. This class focuses on surface decoration. Forming items by hand or on the wheel is not taught in this class.

Price includes all clay, glazes, and firing of up to 10 pieces. Students attend once a week for 6 weeks. Classes are 2 hours long.
