Trees to Know: Native Conifer Identification

The Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion is home to many endemic plants found nowhere else on the planet. This biodiverse hot spot is home to many species of coniferous tree including two endemic ones! The abundance of conifers keeps our mountains green throughout winter but how do we tell these individual species apart?

Join Jackson County’s OSU Extension Master Gardener Coordinator Grace Florjancic in this day full of learning and practicing our conifer ID skills. We will be getting hands on experience using the “Trees to Know in Oregon and Washington” book to identify native conifer trees around the Siskiyou Field Institute. Learn how to use the book’s dichotomous key, tips for quicker conifer ID, and gain the confidence to share this skill with others!
