Ein Kurier wird in Luxemburg festgenommen. In seinem Auto, im Rahmen eines historischen Gemäldes verborgen: dicke Geldbündel – stumme Zeugen eines weit verzweigten kriminellen Netzwerks. In eben dieses wird das Publikum in Christoph Hochhäuslers siebten Spielfilm La Mort Viendra ohne Vorwarnung hineingestoßen. Zunächst herrscht Desorientierung: zu viele Namen, zu viele Informationen, die ungebremst auf uns einprasseln. Aber wir dürfen dem erfahrenen Regisseur vertrauen; wer sich auf die außergewöhnliche Erzählweise einlässt, wird mit Momenten intensiver Klarheit belohnt. Immer wieder blitzen Szenen auf, die im Chaos der organisierten Kriminalität innehalten lassen: eine plötzlich so warm wirkende Annäherung im Club, dann wieder ein Gewaltakt, der buchstäblich an die Gurgel geht. Anhalten können wir uns außerdem bei der Auftragsmörderin Tez, die der verantwortlichen Person der ganzen Misere den Garaus machen soll. La Mort Viendra ist ein unterkühlter und stylischer Euro-Thriller, der Assoziationen zum Kino Jean-Pierre Melvilles aufkommen lässt. Nur wird der melvillesche Lone Wolf hier nicht von Alain Delon, sondern von der fantastischen Sophie Verbeeck verkörpert.

A courier is arrested in Luxembourg. Hidden in his car, framed by a historical painting, are thick bundles of cash – silent witnesses to a far-reaching criminal network. This is precisely what the audience is thrust into without warning in Christoph Hochhäusler's seventh feature film, La Mort Viendra. Initially, there is disorientation: too many names, too much information, bombarding us without restraint. But we can trust the experienced director; those who allow themselves to be drawn into the extraordinary narrative style are rewarded with moments of intense clarity. Again and again, scenes flash up that allow us to pause in the chaos of organized crime: a suddenly warm rapprochement in a club, then another act of violence that literally goes for the throat. We can also pause for a moment with the assassin Tez, who is supposed to put an end to the person responsible for the whole mess. La Mort Viendra is a chilling and stylish Euro-thriller that evokes associations with the cinema of Jean-Pierre Melville. Only here, Melville's Lone Wolf is played not by Alain Delon, but by the fantastic Sophie Verbeeck.
