🌿 MEET COSTA AT OUR NEXT NATIVE PLANT GIVEAWAY EVENT! 🌱
Port Pirie Regional Council is excited to announce our next Native Plant Giveaway, taking place on Sunday 12 October 2025 from 11am – 3pm at Woodward Park.
This exciting community event promises to be bigger and better, featuring none other than very Special Guest Costa Georgiadis, renowned host of Gardening Australia, who will be joining residents to celebrate local biodiversity and sustainable gardening!
Costa will be available throughout the day to meet attendees, answer your gardening questions, share his passion for native plants, and have a friendly chat. Whether you're a seasoned green thumb or just starting out, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with one of Australia’s most beloved gardening personalities.
As part of our region’s KIDtober festivities, family-friendly activities at this exciting event will include:
• A nature-inspired Scavenger Hunt
• Gardening Demonstrations with Costa
• Pot Painting fun
• Great kids’ prizes to be won.
Refreshments on offer throughout the day will include a Free Sausage Sizzle, Free Hot Donuts as well as Hot Drinks and Slushies available for purchase.
Plant Giveaway:
The Port Pirie Native Plant Giveaway is funded by the Government of South Australia as part of a four-year partnership for greening Port Pirie – one of a range of measures being undertaken by the South Australian government to reduce and prevent exposure to lead in Port Pirie.
What’s on Offer:
• Six free native plants per household in the Port Pirie Regional Council area (randomly selected from a range of hardy, locally adapted species)
• No registration required
• No third-party collections permitted
This initiative is designed to help beautify our community, reduce airborne lead dust, increase biodiversity and is also a great opportunity to introduce native flora into your garden.
About Costa Georgiadis:
Costa Georgiadis is a landscape architect, environmental educator, author, and beloved television presenter with an infectious passion for plants, people, and the planet.
As co-creator of Costa’s Garden Odyssey on SBS and host of ABC’s Gardening Australia since 2013, Costa has become a national treasure, winning a Silver Logie and an AACTA Award for his joyful storytelling.
Costa also brings his love of nature to younger audiences through Gardening Australia Junior and the imaginative preschool series Get Grubby TV, where he starred as Costa the Garden Gnome alongside Dirtgirl and Scrapboy in adventures that celebrate the wonders of the natural world.
A tireless advocate for sustainability, Costa connects with communities across Australia through workshops, festivals and farmers markets.
His book Costa’s World: Gardening for the Soul, the Soil and the Suburbs and children’s title Costa’s Garden – Flowers continue to sow inspiration, cultivating a love for nature in readers of all ages.
