Join the U.S.S Artesia in our fight against all cancers at The 2025 Relay for Life of La Mirada and Whittier!
As a Star Trek group that is optimistic about the direction of society (including technological and medical advancements and improving everyone's standard of living) we love to help make such a future a reality by participating in this charitable event. We also value celebrating, supporting, remembering those who are fighting cancer, have fought cancer, or are a caregiver for such a person.
This will be our ship’s tenth year supporting and attending Relay for Life! Too many of our members have lost loved ones to cancer. We believe that by helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society, we are providing cancer patients with desperately needed resources and helping scientists discover ways to treat the most aggressive cancers. We want a world without cancer!
What is Relay for Life?
Relay for Life is a 10 hour fundraising event with a powerful message, "Support, Remember, and Fight Back!" This community event brings together local people whose lives have been affected by cancer. Relay participants will be on the track (talking, “shopping”, or walking) at Liberty Plaza Community Park as a show of support to this cause. There will be a lively marketplace of booths where each team will be collecting donations for opportunity drawings, food, and other things - the proceeds of which all go to the American Cancer Society! There will also be music, games, and educational displays. Then as it starts to get dark, join us for the Luminaria Ceremony in which we light candles and honor loved one who are fighting cancer or have passed away from cancer.
We will have a team booth at Relay for Life of La Mirada Whittier under the name "USS ARTESIA"!
The theme this year is ”carnival”!
We encourage you to come check out this event! If you like, you can chose to hang out at our booth and help with fundraising efforts. Reach out to CO Tanna or XO Joanne for more information!
We are encouraging our team members to wear any Star Trek uniform, to represent The Fleet, but that is not required. You may also consider wearing a shirt in the color of Relay - purple. If you chose to wear a Comm badge on your t-shirt, even better!
We are also asking team members to bring at least 5 cans of pet or human food. (The Relay Chairs shared that variety is most important to them.) If you are feeling generous, bring a few extra cans for someone else that may not be able to bring cans. If you just don’t have cans to spare- no problem! We don’t want to let that stop you from coming to this event. 😉
