Needle and Thread - Embracing Tradition
All spinners are welcome to bring their wheels or spindles and join us for a drop-in spinning circle in the main hall of the Barry's Bay Legion.
What to expect: This is a drop-in casual event where spinners can meet and chat with other spinners about all things fibre related. Spinning is more fun when we do it as a group!
We will have some antique spinning wheels set up for you to try including (I hope) a walking wheel and I'm hoping to have a blending board and some fun fibre set up for you to try. I am also going to bring my rug-wool wheel and some local fibre for people to play with. I will also have a presentation set up on "Spinning with the end in mind" with a demonstration and resources for designing your own yarn for a specific project.
There will also be a quilting demonstration, a Kashubian embroidery demonstration and knitting corner so knitters, embroiderers and quilters can join our circle! Bring your projects.
This event is hosted by the Wilno Heritage Society and is part of Barry's Bay Flannel Fest 2026.
The Wilno Heritage Society will have items for sale and other heritage demonstrations.
Barry's Bay Flannel Fest is happening the week of February 9-16 with lots of events happening all week including live music in the evening - watch for the schedule in the Barry's Bay Newspaper.
