THE BAR- STEWARDS BIOG:
Founded in Barnsley Rock City in 2006 in t'North by their outspoken and energetic ringleader, Scott Doonican, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican are on a mission!
Far from being your typical folk ensemble, this cult-like collective of like-minded knit-wear enthusiasts are determined to follow in their spiritual father’s immortal footsteps and keep his legacy alive.
Scott and his brothers-from-other-mothers, J.R., Mo-Jo and Dave, have quite the talent for Bar-Stewardizing other famous people’s songs with new satirical comedy lyrics, on folk instruments, and to complete their outrageously understated image, the Doonicans have become instantly recognisable for their immaculate hair and their stylish choice of sexy knitwear, and instantly memorable for their lairy, no-holds-barred, anarchic live shows.
A group that is both perpetually on the move, ever-evolving and joyously independent, they have played over 1300 side- splitting shows to date, and have brought smiles and belly- laughs to audiences across the UK; from Barnsley to Barnstaple, from Glastonbury to Glasgow.
They continue to wow audiences with a fine selection of their greatest hits, including the likes of “Jump Ararnd”, “The Lady In Greggs”, "How Deep Is Your Glove?", "Paint 'em Back", "Goat Yoga", and “If I Could Punch A Face... It’d Be Justin Bieber’s”.
The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican can’t wait to bring their shindig back to Whitby Steampunk Weekend and they promise that they WILL rock you... but gently!
"The best thing to come out of Barnsley since the A61 to Sheffield" Jarvis Cocker
“Always enjoy the boys from The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican. When the North goes independent I am suggesting 'Too Good To Be Jus' is our national anthem. Great fun” Jason Manford
“The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican are very, very funny... parodists extraordinaire. One of the hardest working and best live acts on the planet ATM. Bringing light to dark corners and joy to babes and toothless mumblers alike.” Mike Harding
"A ridiculous family of genius, hilarious, irresistible music makers, currently crowd-surfing to the bar all over the great county of Yorkshire and beyond, into the venues and music festivals of the UK. Long may they rock... but gently" Eliza Carthy MBE
"They have earned as one of the festival scenes hottest bookings." UK Festival Guide
“The 8th wonder of the world is actually in Yorkshire... a wonderful Yorkshire genius collective known as The Bar- Steward Sons of Val Doonican. To see them is to know true magnificence" Kate Rusby
ED TUDOR POLE BIOG:
Introducing Mr. Ed Tudor Pole, by writing and singing the Sex Pistols song: Who Killed Bambi, was propelled into a life on stage, in one form or another.
Tenpole Tudor, The Great Rock n Roll Swindle, Absolute Beginners, Sid and Nancy, Straight to Hell and the Crystal Maze are amongst his many credits.
From being a pop star with Tenpole Tudor and all it implies, to joining the theatre in the West-End opposite Rex Harrison and Edward Fox, filming with Ed Harris in war-torn Nicaragua, acting with Clint Eastwood (who helped Ed get to his gig that night) to realising he is a musician and not an actor at all.
Ed will also have a merch stand where you can also purchase a personally dedicated and signed copy by the man himself of his incredible autobiography, and also on Sunday morning when the Emporium opens 10am in Whitby Pavilion.
The Pen is Mightier ~ Autobiography of a Punk Rocker by Edward Tudor Pole...
Whether house-sharing with Philip Pullman, trading one-liners at RADA with Ralph Richardson, shooting the breeze with Clint Eastwood, partying with Jerry Hall, acting in Edwardian comedy with Rex Harrison or dodging fights with Sid Vicious, Edward Tudor Pole has proved himself equal to many a challenge.
In a series of amusing, nostalgic and sometimes outrageous stories, told with candour and wit, Tudor Pole recounts his fascinating youth pre-punk and during the time of Vicious and The Clash before fronting 80s band Tenpole Tudor.
After the horrific implosion of the group, Tudor Pole was enticed into the acting world, appearing in numerous films and plays including Sid & Nancy, Absolute Beginners, a long term association with cult film director Alex Cox, cameo appearances in Harry Potter and Game of Thrones and a stint presenting The Crystal Maze. The Pen is Mightier tells of how a troubled start can lead to a happy ending.
Tudor Pole writes a fast-paced account of a life spent exploring every avenue of show business before finding out where you belong, taking the reader through his eclectic career as a punk rock band leader, hit songwriter, top 10 pop star, movie actor, TV presenter, West-End leading man and long-term touring musician.
