EXHIBITION ON FROM 08/09/2025 UNTIL 02/11/2025
Our Autumn exhibition at the Heritage Centre’s ‘Inside Out Gallery’ is with designer and illustrator Steve Pardue.
Steve is a practicing designer and artist who lives and works in Northumberland. His day-to-day work includes designing artworks, sculptures and interpretation for outdoor sites including nature reserves, parks and the Land of Oak & Iron outdoor interpretation panels you can see across the Derwent Valley.
“When I’m not designing, I combine my love of walking and nature with my art – filling my sketchbook journals with poetic and immersive responses to nature and the world around me. Often my work includes words from music and literature … as well as my own words that spring from nature.”
Most of Steve’s work involves journeying through his local patch … and sometimes beyond, his paintings and prints are captured in his nature journals, along with thoughts, observations, lyrics and poetry.
“Nature is the greatest inspiration in our lives and I see my role as a witness to the living things in our lives. The nature journals are mostly in the form of Moleskin Accordion Sketchbooks – my favourite sketchbook – and drawn with fountain pen and watercolour. After three or more years of observations I capture each book into one composite painting.”
Come along and take a look at Steve’s exhibition in our Inside Out Gallery windows at the Heritage Centre (as seen from the Courtyard).
All Steve’s exhibition work, along with unframed prints and cards are available to purchase from the Heritage Centre, please speak to a member of our team if you’re interested.
