Nine famous Wheeling people will be portrayed by costumed presenters during this free tour; donations will help with ongoing preservation efforts at the cemetery.

There is no parking at the cemetery itself. Please park in downtown City Lot 6 (on Market Street, across from Stone Plaza). Shuttles will take visitors to and from the cemetery.

1. Hugh Nichols (1788-1863) – entrepreneur and original owner of land holdings that are now North Park and Washington Farms. [Portrayed by Jay Frey]
2. Isabella Goshorn Kelley (1816-1860) – daughter and sister of Confederate-supporting slave owners and wife and mother of Union soldiers. [Portrayed by Gael Fincham]
3. Dr. Eliza Hughes (1817-1882) – Confederate supporter and the first female, college educated doctor in what is now West Virginia. [Portrayed by Jeanne Finstein]
4. Arthur Phillips, Jr. (1817-1894) – part of a large family that manufactured boilers for many of the steamboats built in Wheeling. [Portrayed by Greg Smith]
5. Thomas Shallcross (1818-1891) – lawman who tracked down robbers and embezzlers all over the country and as far away as Cuba. [Portrayed by Bill Kolibash]
6. Colonel Joseph Thoburn (1825-1864) – surgeon and later captain of the 1st Virginia Infantry (Union) in the Civil War; killed in action. [Portrayed by Steve Suhler]
7. Edward M. Norton (1812-1883) – Civil War-era marshal who actively enforced the Confiscation Act. [Wife Diana Norton portrayed by Laura Dawson]
8. Dr. Simon Hullihen (1810-1857) – “Father of Oral Surgery” whose death was proclaimed a public calamity. [Portrayed by Jim Comerci]
9. Captain John McLure (1816-1893) and Elizabeth McLure (1823-1880) – riverboat captain and ardent Union supporter during the Civil War, and his wife. [Portrayed by Eric Heinowitz and Hilary Kinney]
