This hands-on workshop will guide you step-by-step to build your very first Kumiko square!
You’ll learn how to build and expand the pattern, as well as how to safely set up and use some of the most common woodworking hand tools. We’ll start with rough strips and thickness them before cutting the joints for the grid. Then we’ll hand cut all the infill pieces that make up the flower pattern and fit everything together in a frame for you to take home.
This 3 to 4-hour course will cover topics such as:
The majority of this project is completed using hand tools only. Please wear clothes that are comfortable to move in and that adhere to all woodshop rules. The later stages of the process can be quite repetitive, I find this is a good time for headphones if you like to listen to music while you work.
You will walk away with a display-ready kumiko panel that you built to show off in your home or office!
Hey there! I’m Cooper. I was formally trained as a structural engineer but this year I’ve taken my 10 years of woodworking experience and gone full time building things. My business has an emphasis on the design and construction of custom heirloom pieces ranging fromjewelry boxes to dining tables. I’m constantly trying to push the boundary between form and function, and I hope to share some of what I’ve learned with the community at CCM.
Outside of woodworking I really enjoying getting outdoors as much as I can, whether that’s rock climbing, camping, skiing, or trail running.
Feel free to check out my website or my instagram to see some of the cool things I've built over the past few years or to keep up with my current projects:
